New Chest Imaging Software
Early detection can often play a crucial role in saving a patients life, especially in case of diseases like lung cancer where it has been found that the patients die within one year of detection of the disease. To increase detection rate of lung lesions with digital radiography and to provide advanced digital radiography solutions to assist in the detection of lung lesions, Royal Philips Electronics partnered with diagnostic image analysis software developer EDDA to enable earlier disease diagnosis.
IQQA-Chest is a new generation CAD software developed to improve diagnostic accuracy, efficiency and confidence. IQQA-Chest supports physicians in the visualization, identification, evaluation and reporting of pulmonary lesions / nodules in digital radiographic chest images. It provides CAD capabilities and real-time interactive toolkits to assist physicians’ detection of lung nodules, especially small ones between 5-15mm that are more likely to be overlooked.
Features
- Supports physicians in visualization, identification, evaluation and reporting of lesions/nodules
- Helps to find unexpected pulmonary nodules in routine clinical examination
- Improves detection rate of small nodules (5-15mm) to up to 85%, compared to 35-65% without IQQA®-Chest assistance
- Provides intelligent assistance tools in a real-time and interactive fashion, which are easy and intuitive to use
- Enhances diagnostic confidence and helps to provide better quality of care
Protected by EDDA's fully self-owned intellectual property, IQQA®-Chest is the first real-time interactive diagnostic analysis system, offering comprehensive tools not only for the identification but also for the quantification of nodules detected with projection chest radiography, the most commonly performed imaging procedure.
The Computer Assisted Detection (CAD) assists radiologists analyzing images to detect cancers of the breast, lung and colon. This steers the radiologist to review or confirm an area that may require further analysis after the initial assessment. CAD boosts detection rates - especially important with regard to lung nodule detection because of the dismal survival rate of the lung cancer patients . A real-time interactive pulmonary nodule analysis system IQQA-Chest, EDDA Technology, Inc. was developed to aid radiologists in chest DR/CR image softcopy reading.

In clinical environments, the solution has been shown to increase the discovery rates of small nodules up to over 85 percent in comparison to detection without IQQA assistance, which varies between 35 and 65 percent. The first real-time interactive diagnostic analysis system, IQQA-Chest integrates advanced computer analysis technology into the clinicians’ diagnostic process.
IQQA Chest - Three-step workflow:
Image Reading
- DICOM-compliant patient study selection
- Image visualization in adjustable viewing modes, including contrast-enhanced viewing mode and lesion-specific image enhancement viewing mode
- Mechanisms for physicians to perform lesion/nodule marking, and selection
ROI Analysis
- Lesion/nodule segmentation in automatic or manual mode
- Instantaneous automatic computation and display of quantitative measurements from segmentation results
- Mechanisms for physicians to input diagnosis and notes, and to confirm nodules to be reported
Clinical Report
- Automatic generation of clinical report on physician confirmed diagnostic information
- Allows physicians to input notes and digital signature
- Secures report with time stamp
- Report ready for printing or storage in DICOM format for PACS archiving.
IQQA-Chest will be available in combination with the entire Philips digital radiography portfolio, including DigitalDiagnost, the company’s state-of-the art solution for direct digital radiography. The product will initially be available in the United States and China where the product has received regulatory clearance, and will become available in other countries from 2007.
