Wockhardt Hospitals plans expansion
Introduction
Wockhardt Hospitals, associate of Harvard Medical International (HMI), a not-for-profit subsidiary of Harvard Medical School has planned a growth strategy of developing a network. The Company employs a flexible approach in its expansion plan, opportunistically engaging in both greenfield and brownfield projects.
Location
New facilities will be spread all over India. Wockhardt is planning to expand its presence in major metropolitan areas, such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Delhi and in selected smaller Tier II cities, such as Madgaon (Goa), Bhopal, Nashik, Bhavnagar, Ludhiana, Jabalpur, Bhuj, Patna, Hubli and Varanasi.

Wockhardt has planned a growth strategy with in an investment of US$ 141.5 million.
Features
The Company aims to expand its reach in the intensive care segment by setting up ICU hospitals to higher the secondary care services with 30 to 80 beds of which about 25% are ICU beds and also focus on super-specialty tertiary care. As a part of its brownfield projects, it intends to manage a cardiac hospital in Ludhiana. In most of the Tier II cities, it proposes to commence focussed tertiary care operations, recruit better medical personnel. The regional ICU hospitals are typically staffed with approximately 30 doctors and trained intensive care specialists who provide 24 hour emergency service throughout the week. It is estimated that the Greenfield projects are expected to be completed within 18 to 24 months and brownfield projects within six to twelve months.
