InnerCool introduces CoolBlue patient temperature modulation system
Cardium Therapeutics and its operating unit InnerCool Therapies have launched the CoolBlueTM surface temperature modulation system. CoolBlue external or surface-based temperature modulation system is intended to cool or warm patients from outside of their bodies and is designed for use in less acute settings such as in-hospital fever management. The system includes a console and a disposable CoolBlueTM vest with upper thigh pads. The vest and thigh pads wrap the body without requiring any adhesives to stick to the skin and produce cooling rates of around 1 Degree Celsius per hour by means of inflatable balloon-based catheters.
CoolBlue Temperature Modulation System Patient temperature modulation focusses on preserving ischemic tissue, reducing cell death and damage, improving patients’ health affected by major medical incidents such as stroke, cardiac arrest and heart attack and managing patients experiencing trauma or fever. For fever control, surface cooling device is emerging as one of the important therapies to help manage patients with fever along with severe neurological injuries or other medical conditions.
An evaluation of the CoolBlue system, when used for some patients in the intensive care, found that the system is easy to use and reduces fever burden. CoolBlue pads are designed with a soft fabric inner lining and attach simply using Velcro strips.
