Cypress – The new Data Storage System by GreenBytes
GreenBytes has introduced its new data storage system for healthcare, Cypress. Cypress is a Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliance for archiving long-term, persistent data, often found in hospital data storage environments. It can be used in PACS, Backup Operations, Disaster Recovery, Document Management and Virtual Machine consolidation applications. greenBytes claims that the system reduces data-storage power consumption by 80 per cent.
The Cypress system combines its software storage operating system with Sun Fire(TM) X4540 storage server. The system combines real-time data de-duplication and Massive Array of Idle Disks (MAID) technology, which, the company claims, saves space, power, time and money.
Cypress storage system has the following features: Real-Time In-Line De-Duplication, Power-State-Aware Disk Sets, Block-Level Compression, Remote Replication, Intuitive Interface and CIFS/NFS High-Performance File-Sharing as well as ISCSI targets.
According to the company, Cypress’ de-duplication and MAID features reduce hospital operating costs by reducing the storage footprint and electrical costs. The system automates the differential replication of individual users' file systems to its network-attached filers.
