Functional Electrical Stimulation System, RT300 by Restorative Therapies receives FDA clearance
Baltimore, Maryland
Sep 5, 2009
Restorative Therapies received FDA clearance for new RT50 wireless stimulator modules and core muscle stimulation for its breakthrough medical device, the RT300, a functional electrical stimulation (FES) motorised ergometer system.
FES is used to evoke motor functions to previously paralysed muscles for treating neurological damage. The RT300 delivers electrical currents to activate muscles in the arms and legs, enabling paralysed legs to move through a regular patterned physical activity. The system is designed for both home and clinic use.
Up to four RT50 wireless stimulator modules can be added to an RT300 FES system stimulating up to 10 muscle groups during a single therapy session. The range of muscles that can be selected for stimulation has also been increased to include the core muscles - abdominal and erector spinae (back) muscles.
