Axial Exchange Partners with MuleSoft to Release Open Source Healthcare Interoperability Platform

Raleigh, North Carolina
Jul 1, 2010

Streamlines Patient Information Delivery across Modern Communication Channels

Axial Exchange
, an emerging leader in healthcare IT, today announced a partnership with MuleSoft, the Web Middleware Company, to release a new open source healthcare interoperability platform called Axial 360™. Built on MuleSoft's Mule ESB, the world's most widely used open source enterprise service bus, Axial 360 enables interoperability among disparate health IT systems within or beyond an institution's firewall. Axial 360 ™ is a core subsystem behind Axial Alerts™, a real time messaging platform which synthesizes clinical information and delivers the information to key healthcare stakeholders.

"Axial Exchange is helping to fundamentally change the healthcare industry by lowering the costs and difficulties of integrating and securely sharing medical information," said Chris Purpura, vice president of corporate and business development at MuleSoft.  "The Axial 360 platform represents an ideal partnership of technology from the leading open source integration platform, combined with deep industry experience from the Axial Exchange team."

Axial has released Axial 360 as a free open source download for use by the broader healthcare community. Axial 360 is not only the interface engine that powers Axial solutions, but it is also intended as an open platform for the broader ecosystem of health IT vendors and in-house developers.

"We're at the beginning of a generation-long retooling of the world's health IT infrastructure, and low cost, standards-based interoperability is key to the success of this effort," said Matt Mattox, CTO of Axial Exchange.  "This is an ideal job for open source middleware.  A strong track record in mission-critical environments and its active developer community makes MuleSoft an ideal partner for Axial in bringing open source interoperability to healthcare. "

The Axial 360 health care interface engine and connector library is fully open-source and is hosted as a Google Code project, with full documentation.
