Wednesday, April 22, 2015

Savannah’s Optim Healthcare has been acquired by National Surgical Healthcare, a Chicago-based owner and operator of 19 surgical hospitals and surgery centers across the country.

According to a press release, the acquisition marks National Surgical Healthcare’s entry into Georgia and will expand its U.S. footprint. The company declined to provide financial details of the transaction.

Headed by 27 physician shareholders and with 20 more physicians in its network, Optim provides musculoskeletal health care to 19 counties in southeast Georgia. From Savannah, its service area runs west to Tifton, north to Sandersville and south to Darien.

Optim has an orthopedic hospital in Reidsville and a surgery center in Savannah on DeRenne Avenue.

Its network includes two other 25-bed hospitals in Sylvania and Millen, seven outpatient physical therapy clinics, two imaging centers and eight rural health clinics.

It has health services in 48 locations in southeast Georgia.

In addition, it has a practice in Bluffton, S.C., five magnetic resonance Imaging units, six outpatient physical therapy locations and a range of specialists. They include 55 doctors trained in orthopedics, interventional pain management, sports medicine, gastroenterology, surgery and plastic surgery and ear, nose and throat, primary care and radiology.

Annual net revenues for Optim Healthcare by July 2014 had reached $150 million.

Dr. John George, Optim’s lead physician partner, said the deal would help the company reach its goals and capitalize on new prospects for growth.

“We believe National Surgical Healthcare can deliver the expert management skills, administrative support and strategic insight necessary for Optim Healthcare to continue its journey toward further success,” he said in a statement.

David Crane, chairman and CEO of NSH, called the deal a “transformational partnership with the leading orthopedic group in southeast Georgia”.

“With its musculoskeletal focus and reputation for strong clinical outcomes and high quality patient care, Optim and NSH are an ideal fit,” he said in a statement. “We are excited about our new partnership with Optim and look forward to working together to grow the organization’s capabilities and presence throughout the area.”

The deal is subject to approval by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and other closing conditions. The transaction is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2015.
