Effingham Plan Commission endorses $14 million outpatient clinic

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

The $14 million outpatient clinic near HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital won the endorsement of the Effingham Plan Commission on Tuesday.

The site plan for the hospital's 22,352-square-foot Ambulatory Care Center, including parking spaces and roadway setbacks, met approval by the commissioners.

The soon-to-be-constructed complex at 904 W. Temple Ave. will sit separately but just feet from the existing medical building at 900 Temple Ave., said Plan Commission President Greg Kemper. Together they'll provide more than 60,000 square feet of space devoted to medical care.

"This is a great project for Effingham," Kemper said after the meeting.

After the project was announced recently, HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital CEO Theresa Rutherford told the Daily News that ambulatory care has become an emphasis in health care.

“As many people know, health care is moving to more outpatient care,” said Rutherford. “This new facility will allow us to bring several outpatient services together.”

The project moved to the Plan Commission after the state approved construction. A certificate of need from the Illinois Heath Facilities and Services Review Board was approved for the hospital to pursue the project.

Rutherford said the staff at Marshall Clinic will move into the building upon its completion — slated tentatively for June 2016.

Some other services in the new facility include specimen collecting, convenient care, diagnostic imaging of various types and women's wellness.
