Eye Surgery Associates Enters Strategic Partnership With Eyecare Services Partners

Wednesday, July 17, 2019

Eye Surgery Associates (“ESA”), one of the leading comprehensive eye care providers in South Florida, has entered into a strategic partnership with Eyecare Services Partners Management, LLC (“ESP”), the leading national provider of integrated eye care services, effective July 15. This is the second such transaction in the last 60 days as ESP continues to build on its leadership in comprehensive eye care services. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. ESA shareholders will continue to be invested in the business following close.

Eye Surgery Associates is one of the largest multi-subspecialty ophthalmology practices in Broward County, with offices in Hollywood, Weston, Pembroke Pines, and Miami, and has been serving these communities for over 30 years. The physicians at Eye Surgery Associates are dedicated to providing the highest quality eye care and are board certified ophthalmologists trained at some of the most prestigious academic centers in the United States, including The Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern University, New York Medical College, Baylor University, and the University of Florida. The practice includes 11 ophthalmologists and an optometrist.

As part of ESP, ESA will continue to be led by its Senior Managing Partner, Dr. Mark S. Dorfman, M.D., a board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist who has served a term as the President of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology and, since 1998, as Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Joe DiMaggio Pediatric Hospital. Dr. Dorfman graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Cum Laude from Albany Medical College in 1989. He completed his medical internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Ophthalmology Residency at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Dorfman went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Northwestern University in Chicago.

“We are very pleased to join the growing ESP family of eye care practices in South Florida,” said Dr. Dorfman. “ESP is a clear leader, having entered into partnerships with some of the country’s leading ophthalmology practices. The combination of ESA’s clinical reputation and ESP’s management and capital resources will ensure that the combined organization will continue to lead the market from both a growth and quality of care perspective.”

“We welcome the physicians and staff of this outstanding practice to the ESP family,” said George Neal, Chief Executive Officer of ESP. “We look forward to supporting their continued growth and success.”

Daniel D. Crowley, Executive Chairman of ESP, added: “We continue to build our comprehensive eye care platform in Florida and other key markets. The highly regarded Eye Surgery Associates practice is an excellent addition to our existing footprint in Florida, bringing the number of our office locations to 17, including offices associated with Delray Eye Associates, Florida Vision Institute, Katzen Eye Care and Laser Center, and Mid Florida Eye Center.”

Provident Healthcare Partners served as exclusive financial advisor to ESA.
