Glenwood-based Healthcare Interactive acquires Wisconsin company, PopSpring Wellness

Friday, January 08, 2016

Howard County health benefits management company Healthcare Interactive Inc. has acquired a small wellness company in Wisconsin.

Glenwood-based Healthcare Interactive, which offers management and technology services for corporate health plans, finalized the deal to acquire PopSpring Wellness from Ansay & Associates LLC on Jan. 1. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

PopSpring Wellness sells wellness benefits to supplement companies' health plans.

By acquiring PopSpring, Healthcare Interactive gains the company's wellness clients and will apply its technology platform to PopSpring's wellness plans. Healthcare Interactive previously contracted with PopSpring to offer health plans to employers in Wisconsin. Now Healthcare Interactive will have direct access to PopSpring's clients.

The move comes as Healthcare Interactive looks to grow its self-funded health plan business.

Self-funded health plan is an insurance plan in which an employer takes on the risk and cost of employees’ health expenses, rather than buying a policy from an insurance company.

Wellness benefits, incentive programs, management services and technology platforms like those developed by Healthcare interactive and PopSpring are intended to help employers with self-funded plans keep costs under control.

In August, Healthcare Interactive, along with GBMC Health Care and Group Benefit Services Inc., launched a new health plan called Habeo Health. The plan emphasizes primary and preventive care, and is intended for employers with between 20 and 150 workers.
