King Saud Medical City (KSMC) in Riyadh will collaborate with Australia’s Alfred Hospital to build an advanced trauma care center at the facility, it was announced here.

A team from the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, visited KSMC recently. The partnership, which was forged with the support of Minister of Health Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, promises to bring a great impact in trauma care in the Kingdom.

“The Australian hospital is recognized as a world leader in trauma and critical care and their collaboration with KSMC will certainly bring a great asset to the establishment of a level one trauma center which is considered to be the first center of its kind locally and regionally,” KSMC said in a press statement.

Dr. Haitham Alfalah, CEO of KSMC, welcomed the Australian delegation led by Mark Fitzgerald, Alfred’s head of trauma. The team was invited to visit the facility in order to make observations and recommendations as well as provide interdisciplinary trauma training prior to the center’s opening. The trauma training will also focus on areas such as research, education, resuscitation, registry and reception.

Once the center is activated and fully operative, it will be capable of providing trauma patients with the most advanced and comprehensive care.

“Considering the increasing number of trauma cases in the Kingdom, which is estimated to exceed 190,000 patients a year, KSMC is optimistic that this collaboration would lead to fruitful results in the future and will eventually add a great value to the quality of trauma care in the country,” said the statement. — SG
