Irish-based Malin to invest $16.4 million in medical technology firm, 3d4medical

Malin Corporation plc., an Irish-based global life sciences company, today announces that it has acquired a 38% shareholding in 3D4Medical for consideration of $16.4 million, along with a further call option to increase its shareholding to 50%. 3D4Medical is a leading innovative medical technology company, based in Ireland, that specialises in the development of medical, educational and health and fitness apps for healthcare professionals as well as student and patient education.

3D4Medical's unique apps, including its flagship app "Essential Anatomy", have garnered more than 9 million downloads globally. The Company's apps are designed to encourage unique learning experiences through intuitive interactivity and visualizations and utilise revolutionary proprietary 3D technology to show the human body.  A number of 3D4Medical's apps are developed in collaboration with Stanford University School of Medicine.

Transaction Summary and 3D4Medical financials:

  • • Malin has acquired a 38% shareholding in 3D4Medical for $16.4 million.
  • • As part of the investment, Malin has also agreed a call option, exercisable at Malin's discretion during the 12 month period between the 12 and 24 month anniversary of the initial investment completion, to increase its shareholding to 50% on a fully diluted basis.
  • • Malin will appoint 3 Directors to the Board of 3D4Medical, including John Herlihy, former Head of Google Ireland.
  • • In the financial year ended 31 December 2014, 3D4Medical recorded EBITDA of $700k on revenues of $4.1 million.
  • • 3D4Medical has generated, since its formation in 2004, over $20 million in cumulative revenues.
