Merit Health Madison breaks ground on office complex

Friday, January 22, 2016

Merit Health Madison held a groundbreaking ceremony last week on a new $9 million 35,000-square foot medical office complex adjacent to the hospital here.

Construction is anticipated to be complete in early-2017 and will feature offices for primary care and other specialties.

In addition, there will be outpatient physical rehabilitation and speech therapy services available.

On hand for the groundbreaking were several state and local officials, including Gov. Phil Bryant and Canton Mayor Arnel Bolden.

Brit Phelps, CEO of Merit Health Madison, said the new medical building will provide "all kinds of jobs" for healthcare specialists and other industry employees.

Merit Health received approval from the Mississippi State Department of Health in July 2015 to construct the office.

The new facility will be in walking distance from the hospital.

Merit Health Madison has 227 employees and 247 medical staff employees. It is one of six hospitals in Central Mississippi's Merit Health network.
