Mississippi Hospital Association and Caravan Health Partner for Better Health Outcomes

Thursday, January 24, 2019

The Mississippi Hospital Association (MHA) and Caravan Health today announced a new collaboration to implement health care payment and delivery reforms for Mississippi hospitals. MHA will sponsor the nation's first statewide Accountable Care Organization (ACO), Myriad Health Alliance, which will provide coordinated, high-quality care to the state's Medicare patients. Myriad is a limited liability corporation owned and operated by the participating hospitals.

"The health care providers of Mississippi are ready for this kind of bold new approach facilitated by Caravan Health, the leader in delivery and payment reform," said MHA President and CEO Timothy H. Moore. "MHA is proud to sponsor a statewide ACO that offers a unique opportunity to minimize risk and maximize cost savings. Even hospitals that already belong to an ACO should get in touch with us to see if this collaborative model is right for them."

"We are thrilled to work with the Mississippi Hospital Association and its members to help them succeed in accountable care. Through our work together we expect Mississippi hospitals will build stronger relationships with physicians in their communities to achieve high quality care and cost efficiency," said Lynn Barr, CEO and Founder of Caravan Health.

Mississippi hospitals will have access to Caravan Health's proven population health management model to support practices across the state in building primary care capacity. Mississippi hospitals working together in an ACO also brings the benefits of scale. Smaller ACOs are more likely to experience widely variable savings and losses, simply due to chance, while larger ACOs deliver more predictable and sustainable results.

Caravan Health is the national leader of successful accountable care and population health programs for community health systems. Caravan Health works with more than 250 health systems, 14,000 providers, and more than 1,000,000 patient lives to drive quality, financial benefits, and strong physician relationships in ACOs.

MHA represents large and small hospitals, health care systems, networks, other providers of care, and their employees across the state of Mississippi.  Since 1931, MHA also provides education for health care leaders and promotes excellence in health services.
