Orlando Health Gets $75M for New Project in Ocoee

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

Looks like Orlando Health is gearing up to kick off another major expansion project.

Leaders of the Orlando-based nonprofit health care system today are scheduled to announce a new $100 million project for its Ocoee hospital, Health Central. The West Orange Healthcare District already has granted Orlando Health $75 million for the project, according to Orlando Health.

The project "will help transform Health Central Hospital's current Ocoee location into a destination medical campus and will bring much needed health care services to Horizon West. The collaboration [Orlando Health and the West Orange Healthcare District] also includes the introduction of more immediate programs and initiatives to improve the West Orange community's health," according to Orlando Health.

Check back for more details on the project.

This may be part of a long-term conceptual plan for Ocoee, which Orlando Business Journal previously reported last August, which involves turning Health Central into the city's own medical hub, Ocoee Mayor John Grogan told OBJ. "We've been working up drawings and studies, and trying to work with getting a new campus of Orlando Health," said Grogan. "We would love to be known as a research and medical city. It would be a huge boom."

There are about 100 acres around Health Central, meaning there's plenty of room for new development.

Meanwhile, construction of a new $43.3 million patient tower has been underway at Health Central Hospital, and will complete this summer. It includes new emergency department beds, private patient rooms and about 100 new permanent jobs.
