Quest Diagnostics Marlborough Lab Earns LEED Green Building Certification

Wednesday, March 30, 2016

Quest Diagnostics Incorporated (DGX), the world's leading provider of diagnostic information services, announced that its state of the art clinical laboratory in Marlborough, Mass., has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from  the U.S. Green Building Council.

The 209,000 square foot lab serves as the hub for the New England area and hosts more than 1,000 employees. Environmentally friendly features of the building include Energy Star appliances and computers, a non-smoking campus, showers for walkers or bike riders, low flow toilets and sinks, reclaimed materials, recycling and occupancy sensors to turn off lights.

In addition, most building materials within the laboratory were manufactured within a 500 mile radius, and construction materials included Forest Stewardship Council certified wood from qualified sources not harmful to ecosystems.

"Our Marlborough facility, and the dedicated employees who work there, showcase our company's passion to empower better health with diagnostic insights," said Steve Rusckowski, President and CEO. "This certification reflects our enduring commitment to creating a healthier world and doing so in a responsible way which benefits our employees and the communities in which we operate."

The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the most widely used third-party verification for green buildings. LEED-certified buildings are generally more resource efficient, use less water and energy, and generate reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

The building met several of the LEED requirements under the categories of Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Material & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation.
