Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast begins $30 Million Expansion

Thursday, September 03, 2015

Tuesday, the Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast kicked-off their $30 million expansion project.

"We are very excited, enormously humbled to be a part of this great ministry and a great health care system in a hospital that makes such a difference, what a great day," said Roger Hall, president of Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.

In the next two years, the hospital will expand their inpatient services, emergency department, maternity and pediatric centers.

"In addition to the ER expansion, we will be adding some additional beds to the hospital," said Hall. "And our family birth place, what a great addition that has been to our hospital. They have over 1,200 deliveries and to be able to expand that and our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that we will be able to have in conjunction with our pediatric hospital in Pensacola."

Hospital officials say they see about 7,000 patients a month, and that number continues to grow, so adding more emergency and pediatric services only benefits the community.

"We are one of the leaders in net promoter scores and patient satisfaction, across the country, and to be given a numerous number of awards, it is of the community we are in, our quality folks that we have, and our ministry that makes a difference."

And that ministry began 100 years ago, when the Daughters of Charity in Pensacola began the Sacred Heart Health System.

Hospital staff says it has been that ministry that has allowed them to provide this care to their patients and the community.

"We have continued that Daughters of Charity mission of serving the poor and the vulnerable," said Susan Davis, president of Sacred Heat Health System. "We are very blessed to be here and very fortunate to have the support that we have of the community."

Adding in extra parking was the first step in this expansion plan, and that is scheduled to be complete in two weeks. Then crews will begin work on the emergency services department.
