NEJM Catalyst Announces Live Web Event on Leadership: Translating Challenge to Success

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- During the height of the 2014 Ebola epidemic in West Africa, a nurse at a Texas Health Resources hospital was diagnosed with Ebola. How did the president of that health system respond to the fear and frenzy of that crisis?

Across the country, a clamor is growing about burnout among physicians and other health care professionals. What are the organizational causes of burnout? What is the role of top leaders in addressing it?

Health care organizations of all stripes are challenged today by changing care delivery models, transitioning payment models, increased focus on patients and consumers, and unprecedented attention to performance outcomes. How do executives and physicians need to respond?

These issues challenge even the most experienced leader. Learn from those who have wisdom to share, acquired from personal experience. On Thursday, June 2, from 1 to 5 PM CT, hosted by the Mayo Clinic, NEJM Catalyst will produce a live web event, Leadership: Translating Challenge to Success, that will provide practical, actionable ideas from health care experts with firsthand knowledge and research findings on today’s most difficult leadership challenges.

The event features distinguished leaders and clinical experts from notable health organizations across the country, who will share their perspectives on some of the critical leadership and management issues they face. Nine experts from leading hospitals, health systems, associations, and other health care stakeholders will present insight and case studies and engage in dialogue about the role of leadership in health care delivery.

"No one is more qualified than this gathering of dynamic speakers and moderators to address the most pressing leadership issues in health care today: physician burnout, leadership during a crisis, and the strains for health care providers and organizations created by the changing marketplace," said Stephen Swensen, MD, MMM, FACR, Medical Director for Leadership and Organization Development and a professor in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.

The event will include three separate sessions, with viewers encouraged to submit questions online for the Q&A portion of each. The sessions and speakers are:
