CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Premier, Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), a leading healthcare improvement company, will introduce an interoperable clinical surveillance app, as well as new capabilities in the PremierConnect® performance improvement platform during the 2016 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS16) Annual Conference & Exhibition.
Working with a group of health information technology (IT) innovators to advance interoperability through the Argonaut Project, Premier has developed a prototype app that incorporates the emerging SMART® on FHIR® standard. Powered by clinical surveillance and knowledge capabilities in PremierConnect®, the prototype can interact within any electronic health record system (EHR) to offer providers clinical decision support.
“Today health systems are facing interoperability challenges that hinder their efforts to provide higher quality care at a lower cost,” said Keith J. Figlioli, senior vice president of healthcare informatics at Premier, as well as a member of the Substitutable Medical Apps, Reusable Technologies (SMART) Advisory Committee and former member of the ONC Health IT Standards Committee. “Premier advocates for, develops and works with other innovators on interoperable solutions to achieve open data access across health IT systems to support the industry’s value-based care transition.”
Premier will also be featuring new capabilities in PremierConnect, which integrates, monitors and manages clinical, financial and operational information across health systems. This includes the integration of cloud-based clinical registry and regulatory capabilities from its CECity acquisition into the platform’s quality and population health apps. PremierConnect’s healthcare-focused ERP capabilities have also been enhanced to include budgeting analytics from Premier’s Healthcare Insights acquisition, as well as to offer advanced analytics and decision support services for workforce management.
PremierConnect apps and Premier’s SMART on FHIR prototype will be featured at booth 432 during HIMSS16. The prototype will also be demonstrated at Premier’s innovator partner booths, including Health Level Seven® International (HL7®), as well as during the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase.
The Argonaut Project was designed to develop first-generation interoperability specifications and enable expanded information sharing across health IT systems. The project is based on FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), HL7’s latest interoperability standard. Premier leverages the SMART platform, which is being advanced through the Argonaut Project, to collaborate with other innovators on the creation of apps that seamlessly run across IT systems. This protocol is called SMART on FHIR.
More than 40,000 health IT professionals, clinicians, executives and vendors will be attending the annual HIMSS conference Feb. 29 – March 4 in Las Vegas.
