SaVida Health Opens Two Centers for Opioid Addiction Treatment in Delaware

Wednesday, April 17, 2019

SaVida Health, a leader in outpatient medication-assisted treatment for opioid and alcohol addiction, has opened two new treatment centers in Delaware. SaVida Health Dover and SaVida Health Newark will introduce SaVida’s comprehensive, patient-centered addiction treatment services to those struggling with alcohol and opioid addiction.

SaVida Health’s holistic and customized approach to care sets it apart from other programs by treating each patient on an individual basis through a range of tailored services to meet a person’s unique needs. Beyond administering FDA-approved medication, SaVida’s licensed clinical professionals deliver comprehensive, evidence-based treatment that includes medical care, counseling, case management and long-term support. This integrated approach is widely accepted as the most effective form of outpatient treatment for opioid and alcohol addiction today. SaVida Health’s own results show that after three months of treatment 91% of SaVida patients test negative for opioids in their system.

As part of their treatment plans, SaVida Health doctors and nurse practitioners prescribe and carefully manage FDA-approved medications such as buprenorphine and naltrexone (common brand names include Suboxone, Sublocade and Vivitrol), which do not require daily dosing like methadone and other conventional treatments.

“While methadone is an option for patients requiring a highly structured daily program, there are far more benefits to the buprenorphine-based medicines (e.g. Suboxone) we prescribe. Unlike methadone, there is no euphoric high or cognitive impairment with buprenorphine.  Because there is a ceiling effect, dose levels can be decreased over time. With methadone, patients build up a tolerance which requires an increase in dosage over time. Also, it is easier for most people to reclaim their lives with scheduled, weekly or monthly appointments” said Dr. Sue Cary, medical director at SaVida Health.

Through SaVida’s mission to provide respectful, compassionate and effective care, its centers are committed to being responsive to its patients’ scheduling needs by providing the safest, most-effective treatments available. It has patient-friendly treatment centers and partners with other providers in its communities who share its understanding that addiction is a disease and not a personal failure.

"The opioid epidemic has affected families all over the country," said Sharon Shepard, vice president and general manager at SaVida Health. “Unfortunately, patients and families often lack information about effective treatment options for this chronic disease. We help educate patients and their families. We also meet our patients where they are in their recovery and help them take important next steps, whether that is moving forward from a relapse or supporting their sobriety. SaVida's effective, integrated care model can help transform the lives of those struggling with addiction, and we’re excited to continue expanding our model of patient-centered care to more communities."

SaVida’s Delaware treatment locations are now scheduling same-day patient appointments and accept most forms of commercial insurance, Medicaid and Medicare.
