Work on 6 AIIMS replicas and upgradation of 13 government institutes begins in India
The Government of India has undertaken a huge project where in it will build 6 institutes of healthcare based on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi, India’s premier healthcare organisation. It will also upgrade 13 existing government facilities to the level AIIMS.

According the government, the Six AIIMS like Apex Healthcare Institutes will be state-of-the-art multi-speciality facilities with captive hospital of 850 beds, medical college with an annual intake of 100 undergraduate and P.G / Post Doctoral courses in various specialities and disciplines as per Medical Council of India norms. The built up area of each institute will be approximately 1,10,000 sq. m. and the estimated cost for construction of each institute is US$ 49.3 million (Rs.200 crores) including all services & development works etc. The cost of medical equipment is estimated at US$ 26.6 million (Rs.108 crores). Each institute will be provided with approximately 100 acres of land. The project is estimated to be complete by 2009.
