Akron Children’s Hospital plans $84 Million expansion of Considine Professional Building in Ohio

Introduction:

Akron Children’s Hospital plans to break ground in February on a 230,000 square-foot addition to its seven-story Considine Professional Building, 215 W. Bowery St., across from the main hospital building.

Features:

Expanding the professional building will bring Akron Children’s mental health programs, which have been several blocks away, back on campus and will consolidate outpatient laboratories. Another big change will be convenient entrance-based check-in and registration rather than in individual departments.

When construction is complete in April, 2018, the following departments will re-locate into the new space:

   •   Adolescent medicine
   •   Pediatric psychology and psychiatry
   •   Pediatric gastroenterology
   •   General surgery
   •   Genetics
   •   Infectious disease
   •   Locust Pediatric Care Group
   •   Vision Center
   •   Outpatient lab
   •   Outpatient pharmacy
   •   Pediatric rheumatology

The project will also give departments, such as Sports Rehab and the NeuroDevelopmental Science Center, which are currently in the building, room to expand.
