Catholic Medical Center Expands with $16M Freestanding ER Investment

Introduction:

Catholic Medical Center (CMC), part of the HCA Healthcare network, has announced plans to build Nashua’s first freestanding emergency room (FSER). The new facility, located at 338 Amherst Street on the former Leda Lanes bowling site, represents a $16 million investment aimed at improving access to emergency care in the region.

Features:

The nearly 10,000-square-foot emergency room will offer 24-hour access to advanced emergency medical services, providing many of the same capabilities as a hospital-based emergency department.

It will feature 11 emergency bays, including a trauma bay, to manage high-acuity cases such as cardiac arrest, stroke, and severe injuries.

The facility will be equipped with modern diagnostic technologies, including CT scanning, ultrasound, and radiology, along with an on-site laboratory, covered ambulance entrance, and dedicated areas for paediatric patients.

The FSER will be staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and approximately 30 clinical professionals, ensuring expert, around-the-clock care for a wide range of medical emergencies.

Designed to complement existing hospitals, urgent care centres, and clinics, the new facility will provide patients with a faster, more convenient option for urgent and critical care needs.

Construction on the Nashua Freestanding Emergency Room will begin in October 2025, with operations scheduled to commence in mid-2026.
