Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU breaks ground on US$350 million Children's Hospital

Introduction:

Children's Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at VCU announced the construction of its new state-of-art, life-changing and life-saving children's hospital with an investment of US$350 million.

Features:

The new construction includes the 86 inpatient private beds and 10 observation beds with the capacity of increasing them to 125 in the future.

The 500,000 square feet facility will include 16 story building along with the four levels of underground parking.

The construction becomes a destination for children and their families seeking exceptional healthcare as well as a destination for research and educational opportunities.

The new facility will replace the existing pediatric inpatient unit with private rooms and also will provide new operating rooms, imaging capacity, emergency services and family amenities.

The children's hospital foundation invested more than US$90 million into CHoR for recruiting world-class specialists, establishing multiple speciality programmes and increasing pediatric research.

The construction is expected to be completed by 2022.
