Introduction:
Children’s Wisconsin plans to expand and shift its emergency department and level 1 Trauma Centre at Milwaukee campus.

The level 1 trauma centre and emergency department located at Children’s Wisconsin Milwaukee campus will be expanded and shifted to the hospital’s entrance to provide patient care and improve access.
The construction features four rooms specifically designed to deal with kids' mental health. The new emergency department will expand from 34 to 48 treatment rooms, state-of-the-art trauma and resuscitation rooms, consisting of four rooms fully committed to mental and behavioural health needs. Moreover, further space will be dedicated to support advanced imaging capabilities.
The expansion was originally planned in 2018 as part of a multi-year improvement project. However, the additional plans of the campus such as phase three of the surgery renovation, which includes a new surgery waiting area are set to open in January. The final phase of the surgery renovation will be completed in 2021.
The active emergency department and Trauma Centre will remain fully operational during the construction. It is expected that the new emergency department will start its operations in late 2023.
