Forté Announces $60 Million Hospital Expansion in Christchurch
Introduction:
Forté Health has confirmed a major hospital expansion project in Christchurch, with groundwork already underway and construction set to begin in November 2025. The new hospital facility, located on Kilmore Street and connected to the existing Forté Hospital, is a partnership between Forté Health Ltd, NHL, and Mainland Capital.
Features:
The development will triple current bed capacity—from 22 to 61—and nearly double operating theatre space, increasing the number of theatres from five to nine. The 6,000 sqm facility will also include a special care unit to support more complex procedures such as joint replacements, bariatric, and cancer surgeries.
Built to IL4 earthquake standards and targeting a 5 Green Star rating, the hospital will meet high safety and sustainability standards. This expansion follows the recent opening of a fifth theatre earlier in 2025, which already added capacity for 1,800 additional surgeries per year.
It is expected to become one of Christchurch’s largest commercial vertical construction projects, creating significant job opportunities both during and after the build.
