Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Unveils US$247 million Expansion Plans

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital has announced the construction of modernisation project with a budget of US$247 million, out of which, hospital’s project steering committee will raise US$25 million.

The hospital raised the final steel beam for the exterior portion of the project. The beam was placed on the top corner of a newly erected 208,000-square-foot building on the north end of the hospital.

The project is expected to be complete and operational after all exterior and interior construction is complete in 2017.

After completion, the hospital plans to increase its bed count from 169 to 176, with more beds all the Intensive Care Unit and 8 new operating rooms with increased capacity.

Every patient’s room will be a ‘smart room’ with medical records available on electronic viewing screens. Every patient will have privacy and hospital visits will be more convenient for both in- and outpatients. Patient’s guests will also have a facility to stay overnight with family members for the patient.

The modernisation includes clinical services like including radiology, ambulatory care services, cardiovascular and pulmonary testing and therapies and non-clinical areas include administration, public/visitor space, circulation, materials management, lobby, simulation laboratory, chapel, community education and conference center.

A new chapel, administrative department and temporary west entry are now complete and testing center and an expanded gastrointestinal suite will be renovated by this fall.

North building will house patients in January 2016 when a new two-story glass atrium entry will be complete on the hospital’s south side.
