Medical City Plan Breaks Ground on $108M Tower Expansion

Introduction

Major construction has begun on a $108 million expansion of one of the patient towers at Medical City Plano to meet the growing demand for emergency, medical, surgical, and oncology care in North Texas.

Features

The project will add more than 131,700 square feet to accommodate additional patient beds for intensive and advanced care programs. 

The expansion includes 60 additional beds for medical and surgical patients, a four-storey vertical extension, three rooftop helipads with EMS support space, and shell space for future bed expansion. 

The rooftop helipads will enhance the hospital’s ability to receive and treat patients quickly during emergencies or disasters, complementing the existing three ground-level helipads.

The expansion will create new jobs during construction and after completion, supporting local employment and economic growth. 

Medical City Plano currently employs over 2,400 staff and 1,800 physicians, making it a major employer in Collin County.

The current expansion is projected to finish in 2026.
