Narayana Health City to expand to various states across India

Introduction:

Narayana Hrudayalaya P Ltd (NHPL) has announced plans to establish 5,000-bed health cities in the major state capitals of India. It intends to reach 20,000 beds within the next five years. The group owns three hospitals in the cities of Bangalore and Kolkata with a total bed capacity of 2,500. It is currently expanding the 1000-bed Bangalore facility to a 5000-bed facility.

Budget

A total investment of US$ 100 million (Rs 400 crore) will be used by NHPL to build a nationwide chain of health cities in the state capitals. Global investment banks, American International Group Inc. (AIG) and JP Morgan have come in as private equity investors and taken 25 per cent stake in the hospital.

Location

The new multi-speciality facilities will spread to Kolkata, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad where land or 26-37 acres has been been allocated. NHPL will then expand to Delhi, Raipur, Bhopal, Jamshedpur and more cities.

Features

The hospitals will cater specialised quality healthcare to the working class and poor people. 75 per cent of the beds will be offered as general ward beds. Each health city will contain a 1000-bed heart hospital and 3000-4000 beds for specialities like cancer, women and children, orthopaedics neurology, eye care and the rest.

Project Status

The group has started building a 1000-bed cardiac hospital on a 40-acre plot in Jaipur, and has been offered 37 acres in Ahmedabad by the Gujarat government and 25 acres by a private builder in Delhi. It is building up its Kolkata facility with a new 25 acre campus with 5,000 additional beds.
