Novant Health Plans $1B Expansion to Advance Healthcare Services in Wilmington

Introduction

Novant Health has approved a comprehensive expansion plan for its Wilmington region facilities to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community. The plan focuses on heart and vascular care, inpatient rehabilitation, and facility upgrades, supporting long-term improvements in patient access and clinical services across New Hanover County.

Features

A new patient tower on the South 17th Street campus will consolidate all inpatient and surgical heart and vascular care. The tower will include:

Surgical spaces for minimally invasive and complex procedures and cardiac catheterization labs for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures

The facility aims to enhance patient experience, streamline workflows for care teams, and support interdisciplinary collaboration.

A new 80,000-square-foot heart and vascular medical office building in Wilmington will expand outpatient services, allowing the system to meet rising demand. Recruitment of additional clinical staff will support this growth.

A modern rehabilitation hospital with 60 private rooms will be built on the 15-acre Wrightsville Avenue campus to nearly double current rehabilitation capacity and support patients recovering from strokes, injuries, and other serious medical events.

The heart and vascular patient tower is expected to open by 2031.
