Oklahoma State University Invests US$70 million to Open New Psychiatric Care Centre

Oklahoma State University plans for the construction of new Psychiatric Care Centre in Tulsa, U.S.

Features:

The new psychiatric hospital, located adjacent to the OSU Medical Centre, ensures to expand and deepen experiential learning for Oklahoma medical students.

The 140,000-square-foot Psychiatric Care Centre will replace the current Tulsa Centre for Behavioural Health and house a 24-hour emergency management centre.

The new psychiatric care centre will double the size of the number of beds available for patients and adds 100 new positions with an addition of to 50 new residency positions for medical students. Moreover, every year it is expected to serve 1,000 or more additional patients, reducing mental health-related emergency department visits, incarcerations and homelessness.

It is estimated that 10,000 residents of Tulsa and surrounding communities suffer from mental health challenge every year. According to Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS), nearly 8 percent of Tulsa-area children and youth  have  serious emotional disorders.

The construction of the new Oklahoma Psychiatric Care Centre is expected to open in late 2024 or by early 2025.
