Pipestone County Medical Center Invests US$14.3 Million in Surgical Department Renovation and Expansion
Introduction
Pipestone County Medical Center (PCMC) is investing US$14.3 million in the renovation and expansion of its surgical department in Pipestone, Minnesota. The project will increase surgical capacity, modernize existing facilities and introduce new equipment and technology to support patients and providers.
Features
The project will add a third operating room, enabling PCMC to accommodate projected growth in surgical demand while maintaining operating room capacity for emergency procedures and unexpected needs.
Two existing operating rooms will be renovated, while all three operating rooms will receive laminar airflow systems designed to deliver filtered air around the surgical field.
The project will introduce new laparoscopic and anesthesia equipment, updated supply racks and patient beds, and a modernized sterilization area.
The renovation will make more efficient use of PCMC's existing hospital space rather than requiring construction of a new hospital structure.
Improvements to the original portion of the hospital, constructed in 1963, will include renovated rooms, new locker rooms and equipment storage, upgraded shower and bathroom facilities, plumbing improvements, and a new patient and family waiting area.
Approximately US$8.993 million of the total investment will be allocated to construction and renovation, with the remaining funding dedicated to equipment and technology.
The construction portion was initially budgeted at approximately US$9.4 million.
Journey Construction will serve as the general contractor, while Wold Architects and Engineers will provide architectural and engineering services.
Because construction will take place within an active healthcare facility, the project will be completed in phases.
