SGMC Health Celebrates Major Milestone in $150 Million Expansion Project
Introduction
SGMC Health has reached a significant milestone in its $150 million main campus expansion in Valdosta, Georgia. Once complete, the project will create one of the most advanced healthcare facilities in South Georgia, serving both local residents and neighbouring communities in Florida.
Features
The expansion includes the construction of a three-storey Women and Infants Tower, designed to provide comprehensive care from pregnancy through to postnatal services in a modern environment.
A new Emergency Department and Level III Trauma Centre are also part of the development, enabling the hospital to meet the region’s most urgent medical needs.
The project reflects the organisation’s continued growth in both services and workforce. Nursing numbers now exceed 1,000, and more than 700 healthcare providers are part of the SGMC system.
Recruitment efforts remain strong, with 19 new doctors recently joining in specialities including obstetrics, neurosurgery, cardiology, general surgery and gastroenterology. The expansion also supports the development of residency and medical education programmes.
The redesigned campus will feature a new main entrance on Woodrow Wilson Drive, improving access, traffic flow and visitor experience.
Construction is expected to finish in late 2026, with the hospital remaining fully operational during the work.
