Skanska Starts New Hospital Construction in Finland

Introduction:

Skanska has entered into terms of agreement with Oulu University hospital to build a new hospital building in Oulu, Finland.

Features:

The new ten-storey building, covering a total area of about 59,000 square meters, will include emergency rooms, medical care units, operating rooms, delivery wards, and support functions.

The project consists of two parts built by two alliance consortiums, wherein Skanska will be the major contractor in the B alliance, which is worth US$414 million.

Siemens, Caverion, Oulu University Hospital, and Tierna Group, a joint venture of architectural agencies are part of the agreement.

The share of Skanska in the contract is worth US$208 million. Caverion will be responsible for design management, technical systems, and safety and communication technology. Caverion holds over US$110million in the contract.

The buildings A and B will form a single, ten-floor entity. The total cost of the new hospital complex is approximately US $176 billion, of which the new construction accounts for US $993 million.

The construction work on building A began last year and is being carried out by an alliance of NCC, Aro Systems, Siemens, and Tierna Group.

The preparatory construction work on the project has already started, with all construction phases due to be completed by the end of 2023.
