State-of-the Art Medical Facility underway at Ntabankulu, South Africa

Introduction:

Astate-of-the-art medical facility at the Sipetu District Hospital, is underway at Ntabankulu, in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The sod turning ceremony at the site was completed in February this year. Construction for the first phase, is in progress. The Eastern Cape Department of Health has undertaken investment in the project while the Coega Development Corporation (CDC) is the implementation agent for the project.

Expansion Strategy

The expansion will roll out in five phases. Phase I, which began in February, entails major earth and civil work construction. Preparatory works, mostly platforms for new hospital buildings and demolition of old constructions are being carried out, to make way for new structures. Phase I would take around six months for completion. Phase II and III would involve construction of the new hospital building and the service block. It would take 30 months and 18 months respectively.

Features

A sprawling 12000 square metres of new floor area will be constructed. At least 140,000 people in the Ntabankulu district will have access to world class healthcare facilities, apart from experiencing state-of-the-art infrastructural benefits. Four hospital wards and a general ward for tuberculosis patients will also be established in the Phase IV of construction. Phase II went out in tender in March this year.

Budget

ECDH will roll out an overall R320 million for the five-phase expansion.

Future Expansion Plans:

The company is ambitious to have a network of 35 hospitals with a revenue of over Rs 500 crore in the next 5 years and may even go for IPO.
