One World to build hospital on St. John’s Hospital campus in Bangalore, India

Introduction

The Canada-based One World Hospital and Healing Centre Trust is going to open a 200-bed facility at Bangalore’s St. John’s Hospital Campus. The 31 year old, 1200-bed St. John’s Hospital in Bangalore is built on a 130 acre plot. The One World Hospital will be built on a plot of 5 acres on the campus.

The hospital will be built at an estimated cost of US$ 26.6 million and will feature facilities like swimming pool, garden, hydrotherapy and landscape architecture. Architecture is going to be one of the key features of the hospital as the design is based on the concept that a well-designed hospital helps in better healing. Bangalore-based RC Architects have been given the contract for designing the hospital.

The project was commissioned in September 2006 and is likely to be completed by the end of 2007. It has plans to recruit 583 staff members and around 30 full time doctors. The hospital will focus on Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Neurology and General Surgery. The hospital is also likely to have collaboration with the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health that it plans to open in Bangalore.
