Sutter Announces Major $2.8B Investment in New Silicon Valley Medical Center

Introduction

Sutter Health has announced plans for a major new medical centre in Santa Clara, near Levi’s Stadium, to improve access to hospital services in one of California’s fastest-growing communities. The project forms part of a wider dual-campus plan supporting long-term healthcare needs and strengthening the role of the Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group.

Features

The eight-storey building will replace an existing office site on Mission College Boulevard and include around 850,000 square feet of clinical space.

It will provide 272 private patient rooms, a full emergency department, intensive care, maternity services with a Level III neonatal unit and advanced operating theatres.

The design will incorporate sustainability measures and a rooftop helipad for urgent transfers. The centre will link with Sutter’s growing network of urgent care, diagnostics, mental health and specialised services, including the new East Santa Clara Care Centre.

The development aims to reduce long travel times for nearby residents, support job creation and help train the future healthcare workforce with expanded medical education programmes.

Year of Completion

The new medical centre is expected to open in 2031.
