Teaching Hospital and Medical College for DHA City, Karachi
Introduction:
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in 2013 between Defence Housing Authority Karachi and the DOW University of Health Sciences (DUHS) for a 500-bed Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital and a Medical College at DHA City Karachi (DCK). The latter is a residential cum commercial project coming up on the Super Highway, 44 km off Karachi. Construction is expected to begin this year.
Expansion Strategy
The complex will be built in four phases. The duration of each phase is:
- Phase I – A Medical Dispensary (2014 – ’15)
- Phase II – A Medical Centre (2015 – ’16)
- Phase III – A Secondary Care Hospital (2017 – ’18)
- Phase IV – A Tertiary Care Hospital (2019 – ’23)
Features
Sprawling over 85 acres of land, the Health Care City of DCK will house the DUHS Medical Complex. Apart from the teaching university hospital there, it would be host to a state-of-the-art Liver Transplant Centre. The hospital will have best-in-class equipments and also, residential blocks for staff and students, along with all requisite amenities. Not only the residents of DCK, but all other residents of the adjacent region and the entire Sindh province would benefit from this project.
