UCHealth Invests US$407 million for the Expansion of Memorial Hospital North in USA
Introduction:
UCHealth plans for the investment of US$407 million to nearly double the size of Memorial Hospital North in the United States.
Features:
The hospital expansion project encompasses nearly 330,000 square feet of new construction, with approximately 45 percent of the space built for immediate use and the remainder reserved as shelled space for future growth.
This additional space will support Memorial North’s continued development, including the expansion of its cancer centre to offer clinical trials and advanced treatments.
Highlights of phase 1 include the addition of new operating rooms and the construction of a six-storey inpatient tower, which will initially open with 36 new medical-surgical beds and 14 ICU beds.
Additionally, a six-level parking garage will be built to accommodate the needs of patients, visitors, and staff.
The expansion will also enhance surgical specialities such as spine and orthopaedic surgeries while providing patients access to nationally recognised specialists.
The $407 million project will feature:
- A new six-storey inpatient tower, increasing the hospital’s bed capacity from 140 to 190, with potential expansion to 320 beds
- Four new operating rooms as part of Phase 1, with plans for four additional ORs in future phases, bringing the total to 18
- An expanded kitchen and dining area to better serve patients, visitors, and staff
- A laboratory expansion
- Space for 12 additional emergency department exam rooms
- Future growth in imaging services
- Renovation of the main lobby to integrate the new tower
- A six-level parking structure with 979 stalls, supplemented by expanded surface parking.
Construction is slated to commence with a groundbreaking in early 2025. The inpatient tower is scheduled for construction in 2026 and is expected to open to patients in 2029.
