UCHealth Medical Center Invests US$280 million to Open New Patient Tower

Introduction:
UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies (MCR) plans to open new patient tower in Colorado, USA.

Features:
The new project will be constructed on the north side of the hospital,featuring a comprehensive cancer center, an expanded emergency department and new space designed for imaging and cardiac services.

The addition of this patient tower is done to meet the growing community needs by increasing the bed capacity from 187 to 283 with room to grow up to 319 beds.

Some of the special features of the tower include:
•    A five-story tower serving trauma-surgical, medical-surgical and surgical-ICU inpatients, among others
•    Emergency Department designed with new entrance increasing the number of rooms from 27 to 49
•    Expanded parking space for patients and staff
•    Addition of two electrophysiology labs and two cardiac catheterization labs will be done towards south side of the current hospital building
•    An additonal interventional radiology suite on the east side of the existing hospital along with expanded imaging services such as CT, ultrasound and MRI
•    A new cancer center is opened on the first floors of both north medical office building and the new tower. The cancer center features high-dose radiation therapy, without the need for patients to travel to metro Denver.

The project is currently in designing phase, is expected to start its constrution in late-2023. In addition, the cancer center expects to allow patients in mid-2024. The new tower will be fully operational by 2026.
