UK King's Daughters Plans US$335 Million Healthcare Expansion
Introduction
The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees has approved the design and construction of several projects for UK King's Daughters in Ashland, Kentucky, and Portsmouth, Ohio. Collectively, the projects represent an estimated US$335 million investment in patient care over the next five years, aimed at expanding capacity, modernizing clinical infrastructure and increasing access to healthcare services.

In Ashland, three floors will be added to Parkview Patient Tower 2, creating capacity for 150 additional inpatient beds to support growing demand for hospital services.
The King's Daughters Ohio campus in Portsmouth will undergo an expansion to increase Emergency and Urgent Care capacity, while also providing additional space for diagnostic and outpatient services.
The Ashland campus will also renovate and expand its Cardiovascular Operating Rooms, including the addition of a second hybrid operating room, more Post-Anesthesia Care Unit rooms and additional Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit beds.
The inpatient pediatric unit will be expanded into a 12-bed unit to support growth in pediatric services.
The Main Operating Room will be renovated and expanded, with larger operating rooms and additional pre- and post-operative care space to support increased robotic procedures and complex neurosurgical and orthopedic procedures.
Additional projects include the renovation and expansion of the Labor and Delivery Unit and Laboratory Services, with the latter providing space for increased automation and operational efficiency.
The projects are designed to expand clinical capacity, modernize patient care environments and support the growing healthcare needs of communities across Kentucky and southern Ohio.
