University of Chicago Medicine Unveils US$815 million for New Cancer Research Facility in USA

Introduction:

The University of Chicago Medicine is set to construct a US$815 million facility on its medical campus. The medical campus will be loacted  at Chicago's South Side, USA.

Features:

The facility covering an area of 575,000-square-foot will be dedicated for cancer care and research at its medical campus.

The new cancer pavilion encompasses 80 inpatient beds, including 64 beds for medical-surgical care and a 16-bed unit for intensive care. It houses 90 consultation and outpatient examination rooms, along with a specialised urgent care clinic, ensuring prompt attention for immunocompromised oncology patients. The infusion therapy area provides private rooms categorised by cancer type.

The centre features a comprehensive cancer imaging suite, equipped with advanced technology, including two MRIs, two CT scanners, two ultrasounds, and cutting-edge imaging tools like a mobile C-arm and fluoroscopy.

Additionally, the establishment includes a multidisciplinary breast cancer centre, designated spaces for clinical trials to streamline access to pioneering research, and a dedicated section focused on prevention, detection, treatment, and survivorship.

Beyond its comprehensive research, personalised therapies, and clinical trials, the facility will provide a range of patient and family support services, including screenings, cancer prevention, lifestyle classes, nutritional education, and survivor assistance, creating a robust support network.

This facility will be dedicated to addressing cancer care's most formidable challenges, offering an environment where patients can access cutting-edge diagnostics, innovative treatments, impactful clinical trials, and holistic support services, all conveniently housed under one roof.

Projected to open in 2027, the facility plans to have 200,000 outpatient visits and 5,000 inpatient admissions every year.
