University of Rochester Medical Centre Expands Memorial Hospital in New York, USA

Introduction:
University of Rochester Medical Centre plans for Memorial Hospital expansion project.

Features:
The project is set to more than triple the current size of the emergency department, by expanding its area from 32,000 square feet to an expansive 120,000 square feet.

It also introduces a brand-new nine- storey patient tower, resulting in an impressive total of 650,000 square feet of modern, cutting-edge space.

The project also encompasses the construction of a nine- storey inpatient bed tower, which will serve multiple crucial purposes. This tower will not only expand the ED capacity but also provide more than 100 private inpatient rooms. Moreover, it has designated floors earmarked for future operating rooms and advanced treatment services.

This expansion will be implemented in phases and will include the addition of over 200 examination/treatment and patient observation stations to both the emergency department and the comprehensive psychiatric emergency programme.

The project will help address the persistent issues of chronic bed shortages and overcrowding in the emergency department, which the community has grappled with for several years.

URMC plan to consolidate cardiovascular services in the tower. It will create a centre for advancing heart health that will be among the very best in the nation.

With construction underway, the expansion project is expected to reach its completion in 2027.
