AngioDynamics Introduced Breakthrough AngioVac System for Non-Surgical Right Heart Vegetation Removal
AngioDynamics has unveiled the groundbreaking AngioVac System, designed to address the proposed indications for non-surgical elimination of cardiac vegetation from the right heart chamber.
The AngioVac System introduces a pioneering and inventive approach to address the non-surgical extraction of vegetation from the right heart, signifying a substantial advancement in enhancing patient care.
The AngioVac System functions as an on-circuit aspiration mechanism, employing a venous drainage cannula to effectively eliminate blood clots (thrombi) or particulate matter (emboli) during extracorporeal bypass procedures, which can last for a maximum of six hours.
This system has the unique capability of extracting thrombus and emboli while concurrently minimising blood loss. This is achieved through a process where blood is continuously recirculated within the AngioVac extracorporeal (venovenous) bypass circuit.
The procedure's target areas for thrombus and embolus removal encompass various blood vessels, including but not restricted to the iliofemoral vein, Inferior Vena Cava (IVC), Superior Vena Cava (SVC), and the Right Heart.
U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Breakthrough Device designation for the AngioVac System for the non-surgical removal of right heart vegetation.
