Aquilion ONE - The World's First Dynamic Volume Computed Tomography System by Toshiba

Toshiba has introduced a new computed tomography (CT) system scanner that creates detailed 3-D movies of entire organs in real time. The scanner, Aquilion ONE promises fast and accurate diagnoses in emergencies like strokes and heart attacks, offering patients the best treatment options. This advanced diagnostic imaging system can reduce diagnosis time for life threatening diseases like heart disease and stroke from days and hours to a few minutes.

Aquilion ONE can scan an organ (the heart, brain and others) in one rotation as it covers up to 16 cm of anatomy using 320 ultra high-resolution 0.5 mm detector elements. This reduces examining time, radiation and contrast dose. With the Aquilion ONE, the organ or area is captured in a single rotation at one moment in time eliminating the need to reconstruct slices from multiple points in time. For the first time, Physicians can see the organ's dynamic blood flow and function apart from a three-dimensional depiction of an organ.

The Aquilion ONE has 320 channels streaming 10 GB of information per second. Its gantry, a 2-meter tall cylinder with the imaging sensors spins so fast generating 27 Gs and takes .35 seconds per rotation.

The Aquilion ONE with its ability to perform uniquely comprehensive exams, including functional studies, reduces the need for multiple, duplicative tests and invasive procedures. As a result unnecessary tests can be eliminated and diagnosis time is faster.
