Cordance Medical Discovered Novel NeuroAccess™ for Brain Tumours

Cordance Medical has discovered NeuroAccess an innovative medical device designed to assist in neuro-oncology diagnostics by temporarily opening the blood-brain barrier (BBB).

The NeuroAccess device utilises a procedure called SonoBiopsy™, which involves transiently opening the BBB to increase the concentration of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) analytes in the patient's bloodstream. This elevated analyte concentration is aimed at facilitating the use of existing oncology liquid biopsy tests for brain tumour patients.

The device is designed to be portable, making it suitable for use in a variety of healthcare settings, including community clinics and hospitals. This portability enables broader accessibility to SonoBiopsy procedures, potentially benefiting a larger number of patients.

Preclinical studies have demonstrated the potential benefits of using focused ultrasound and microbubble-mediated BBB disruption for a range of neurological disorders. 

NeuroAccess is engineered for adult patients aged 22 and above who have received a confirmed or highly suspected brain tumour diagnosis from a neurologist or neuro-oncologist. This device is not intended for general use but is specifically tailored for individuals with brain tumours.

While the primary focus is on neuro-oncology and brain tumour diagnostics, this technology may also have applications in other conditions such as glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), brain metastasis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and other neurologic diseases.
