ElectroWire Completes First Clinical Cases with LightningWire

ElectroWire Medical has completed its first clinical cases using the FDA-cleared LightningWire™ Transseptal Puncture System at Spartanburg Medical Center in South Carolina, US.

The procedures were performed by structural interventional cardiologist Dr Nalin Srivastava and cardiac electrophysiologist Dr David Rodak.

The cases included a mitral valve repair, a left atrial appendage occlusion and four pulsed field ablation procedures.

The clinical cases used four different transseptal introducers and two electrosurgical generators.

According to the company, this demonstrated the system’s compatibility with a range of commonly available equipment and operator-preferred devices.

All six procedures were completed successfully without reported complications.

Dr Srivastava also performed the first-in-human use of the LightningWire system, using it to deliver a 24-French steerable guide catheter into the left atrium during a mitral valve repair procedure.

The LightningWire system is designed to support transseptal access by combining mechanical and electrosurgical functions.

The technology is intended for procedures requiring access to the left side of the heart.

Potential applications include catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation, left atrial appendage occlusion and transcatheter mitral valve repair or replacement.

The successful clinical cases provide initial real-world experience with the system as ElectroWire Medical continues to develop its transseptal access technology.
