First Dental Device Developed for Early Cavity Detection

A global leader, Ortek Therapeutics Inc, developed new portable electronic cavity detection device, ECD™ for children and adults. Cavitys lessions formed on the surface of the teeth which are very small to be detected by X-rays can now be easily detected with the discovery of new ECD device.

ECD™, is a mini portable device featured with a digital display and a 9 volt battery, a hand piece with a novel dimensionally configured stainless steel tip that painlessly touches the bottom of a pit or fissure surface and a reference lip hook. In addition, ECD™ is a fast and easy to use, painless, and does not use ionising radiation.

It consists of a stainless steel tip gently fixed in the grooves of molars and premolars which allow the conductivity of enamel and instantly display digital cavities score enablling dental professionals to suggest suitable treatment or minimally invasive procedures.

Generally, 60-90 per cent of children across the country are affected by untreated dental cavities. Hence ECD™, with advanced technology can instantly detect very early tooth decay by protecting tooth structure and significantly increasing patient outcomes.

Ortek-ECD™ has been cleared and received a breakthrough designation from the US FDA for professional use only.
