Freestyle Libre Flash Helps to Monitor Blood Glucose Levels Daily

Abbott’s Freestyle Libre Flash is a breakthrough diabetes device that helps to monitor blood glucose levels daily. The device makes life considerably better, and less painful, for diabetics.

The device is a continuous glucose monitoring system that does not require adult diabetics to prick themselves with a needle to take blood glucose measurements on a regular basis. Freestyle Libre Flash uses a small wire inserted under the skin to determine glucose levels.

To determine glucose levels, users can wave a mobile reader above the sensor wire and they can utilize the sensors to monitor how their glucose levels change throughout the day.

Following a 12-hour start-up period, the device can be worn for up to 10 days. The Freestyle Libre system utilises advanced technology that is easy to use.

Using this device is convenient as it contains a small sensor that automatically measures and continuously stores glucose readings day and night. Glucose readings can be done within a painless 1 second scan even through clothing.

Users have to apply sensor with applicator. A thin flexible sterile fibre (5mm long) is inserted just below the skin. Most people reported that applying the sensor was painless.

The 14-day sensor stays on the back of your upper arm and automatically captures glucose readings day and night. The sensor is water resistant and can be worn while bathing, swimming and exercising.

The Freestyle Libre sensors used in this system uses technology that is much less intrusive than traditional blood glucose monitoring and makes glucose testing hassle-free.  It is of small size (35 mm x 5 mm), which is convenient to wear under clothing.

It is designed to stay on the body for up to 14 days and needs to be applied once every 2 weeks.  It eliminates painful finger pricks needed for calibration. In addition, it is water-resistant.
