KitoTech Medical announced the launch of microMend™, a new, novel skin closure device. It is an attractive alternative to the current choices of sutures, staples, and glues for closing skin wounds, including lacerations and surgical incisions.
microMend, an innovative closure solution, uses an array of tiny stainless steel staples (Microstaples), which is attached to an adhesive backing, to achieve similar holding strength to sutures for closing wounds.
It has been designed to make it easy to apply in a similar manner to a bandage.
microMend is being used to close wounds in dermatology, plastic surgery, orthopedic and spinal surgeries, laparoscopic and robotic surgeries, and traumatic injuries.
It can be used in various applications including Surgical and Urgent Care procedures. It is offered in two versions, each 43 mm long and 12mm wide, a ‘butterfly’ shape which narrows to 6 mm at the center, and a ‘straight edge’ Band-Aid shape that is 12mm wide throughout.
microMend helps to reduce the pain and itching associated with sutures and eliminating the painful process of removing them.
The benefits of microMend include ease of use, time savings, reduced pain, elimination of the need for return clinic visits for device removal and reduced risk of needle sticks.
These advantages made this novel skin closure device an attractive, alternative for closing wounds that currently need sutures.
